If you walk the promenade from west to east, you are on The Golden Mile: it is one mile from the Bay Cabin car park to the Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) HQ at the far end. You will pass the splash pool with adjoining children’s play area as you arrive at the Pebble Beach cafe opposite which are the two petanque pitches for public use. You will now be walking past Stokes Bay Sailing Club with a public slipway on the right and a toilet block on the left. You will pass shelters and beach huts before arriving at the one mile marker by GAFIRS.
Toilets
There are toilet facilities at at the west end of the Bay next to the Diving Museum, in the centre of the bay by the sailing club and at the east end of the bay by the entrance to the car park behind GAFIRS.
Litter
There are plenty of litter bins along the promenade and visitors are urged to use these.
Dogs
The promenade is popular with dog walkers and the litter bins take dog waste. The beach between Pebble Beach and GAFIRS is dog free between 1st May and 30th September. There are no restrictions in the open area and beach beyond GAFIRS and towards Gilkicker.
Beach Huts
There are two rows of concrete beach huts on the east section of promenade owned and administered by Gosport Borough Council.
Petanque
There are two petanque play areas in front of the Pebble Beach Cafe constructed in 2009 as part to commemorate Gosport’s link to its twin town of Royan, France. These are free to use and are maintained by the Friends of Stokes Bay.
Splash Park
The splash park is a free outside play facility with traditional all year round play equipment and water features, the latter being open between 10am and 4pm daily in the summer. It is situated on the promenade by the Pebbles cafe.
Picnics and Barbecues
Voted one of the top picnic areas, there are picnic benches at various locations within the grass areas behind the promenade and four BBQ stands with integral hot bin and picnic bench nearby: donated by Gosport Rotary Club, these enable visitors to safely enjoy their BBQ without damaging the grass. Three are on the field behind GAFIRS and a fourth beyond the Splash Park.
Golden Mile and Gym Equipment
The start of the Golden Mile along the promenade is just past the GAFIRS slipway and the end is just before the promenade ends at No.2 Battery. There are individual items of gym equipment along the promenade.
Memorials and Interpretation Boards
There are a number of memorials and interpretation boards along the promenade. More information about these can be found under the Memorials and Interpretation Boards sub-menus.
